Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Neurocritical Care team at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is seeking to hire additional Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants to staff our planned Neuro-ICU. Currently consisting of 3 neurointensivists and 2 NPs and operating in a consultative/co-management role in existing medical and surgical ICUs, the service is preparing to expand to a primary neurocritical care service within a discrete Neuro-ICU in 2017. Positions are available immediately, allowing for orientation and training prior to the opening of the Neuro-ICU. Advanced Practitioners hired for this position will function as primary critical care Advanced Practitioners in the new Neuro-ICU under the direction of a neurointensivist (rotating day/night schedule including weekends and holidays, 13 12h shifts per 4 week period). The Neuro-ICU will admit adult patients with critical illness due primarily to neurological and neurosurgical problems, including post-neurosurgical and post- neurointerventional patients.
Key duties will include physical assessment; development and implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic plans; interpretation of physical exam laboratory, imaging, and physiologic data; clinical documentation; and some invasive procedures including arterial and central venous line placement.
The successful candidate will have received some formal training in the ICU setting; be dedicated to the delivery of outstanding care to patients and their families; have excellent interpersonal skills; have the ability to function semi-autonomously in the care of challenging, neurocritically ill patients; and have enthusiasm for the teaching, learning, and quality improvement necessary for the successful building of the neurocritical care program. Experience as an Advanced Practitioner in neurocritical care or another type of critical care is ideal, but not required. Research opportunities are available if desired.
