Nurse Practitioner opportunity in the Hematology/Oncology clinic with Cook Children's Health Care System located in Fort Worth, Texas. Our hematology program directs the care of children and adolescents with diseases of the blood including: sickle cell, hemophilia, stroke/thrombosis, bone marrow failure syndrome, anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. The oncology program cares for kids with cancer, including some of the rarest forms: leukemia/lymphoma, neuroblastoma, Wilms’ tumor, retinoblastoma, other tumors, orthopedic cancers. The Nurse Practitioner functions in collaborative practice with physician(s) in a private office setting. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols. Develops and maintains own volume of patients and provides office coverage for physician(s) during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital admission/discharge and prescriptive authority. Supervises private office clinical personnel as needed.
A degree from an accredited school of nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing is required. Minimum of two years experience either as a pediatric nurse or family nurse practitioner in a primary or acute care setting preferred. Experience in Hematology/Oncology is preferred. Licensure to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas and recognition from the State Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practice Nurse required. Certification as a Pediatric or Family Practice Nurse Practitioner and current certification in Basic Life Support required. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
