Geisinger Holy Spirit is currently seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist to use their own life-altering experience to guide and support others who are in some form of mental health recovery. Peer Support Specialist works in conjunction with highly trained and educated professionals by providing support from the perspective of someone who has first-hand experience, something that professionals cannot learn from training or education. Candidates must have personal experience relevant to services provided, peer support or mental health experience, and a Peer Support Specialist certification.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use personal experiences to quickly develop a rapport with patients, acting as mentor
Work with Therapists and Recreational Therapist to facilitate groups
Provide coverage for Therapists and Recreational Therapist by facilitating groups, as needed
Independently facilitate group on the Wellness Action Recovery Plan (WRAP)
Complete documentation in an electronic record system in a timely manner
Facilitate the Recovery Focused Care Committee
Educate peers and staff on recovery principles
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Personal experience relevant to services provided
Peer support or mental health experience
Peer Support Specialist certification
High school diploma
Experience facilitating groups
Trained to facilitate groups on the WRAP
Knowledge of community services/resources
