JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse LOCATION: Geisinger Community Medical Center DEPARTMENT: Childbirth Center which includes Labor, Post-Partum & Nursery as well as alternate units for which you are cross-trained and/or have previous experience WORK SCHEDULE:Days/Evenings; every other weekend and holiday rotation; on call required WORK TYPE: Full Time (.9 FTE) - 72 Hours Bi-Weekly; 40W Overtime

JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with the standards of care established by the State Board of Nursing, a registered nurse is responsible for delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. A registered nurse also directs and guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language to effectively communicate with predominantly English-speaking population.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required.
For Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN in an acute/inpatient capacity, a BSN degree is not required.
For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred.
Valid Pennsylvania RN License.
BLS certification preferred and required within 60 days of employment.
ACLS and PALS required within 3 months of employment.
NRP and Stable required within 3 months of employment.
Three years recent OB experience Complete and pass written OB test with minimum of 90% score AWHONN EFM course completion and pass of written exam with minimum 80% score, within 3 months of hire Membership in a professional nursing organization preferred Attendance and completion of scrub clinic within 6 months of hire Certification in specialty area preferred Previous shared governance experience/participation preferred Duration of on-the-job training to become familiar with job duties varies by individual unit.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.

GEISINGER-COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER (G-CMC), Scranton, Pa., is an acute care hospital licensed for 297 beds and houses the only Level II Trauma Center in Lackawanna County and Scranton’s only neurosurgery program and adult in-patient behavioral health unit.
