Responsible for direction of patient care in the behavioral healthcare setting. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Consults with staff and providers to ensure patient needs and safety are met. Facilitates performance improvement activities and promotes growth for Behavioral health. Acts as a resource to the administrative team, department staff and medical staff with respect to the quality of care provided for mental health management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for the direction of staff in behavioral health clinical settings. • Oversees all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors. • Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed. • Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate the overall plan for effectiveness. • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team. • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. • Interacts professionally with patient/family. • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide and collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations. • Participates in patient care conferences. • Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of unit. Prepares reports, i.e. utilization, performance improvement, outcome data. • Maintains performance improvement activities for the department. • Provides education to staff on performance improvement. Ability to plan and organize orientation and in-service training for Behavioral Health staff members, participates in guidance and educational programs. • Performs management activities including interviewing and hiring. Evaluating, termination and departmental staffing scheduling. • Demonstrates ability to perform job specific competencies (refer to skills checklist). • Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations. • Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Advanced Degree in a Behavioral Health field of study ie. nursing, psychology, social work
Current BLS certification.
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a behavioral healthcare setting, management experience preferred.
