Responsible for developing, conducting and evaluating in-service programs, orientation, competencies and continuing education for nurses, students and other staff in clinical areas. Develops educational policies and procedures as directed. Serves as a resource person to staff and management. Responsible for new nurse on boarding and mentoring as assigned. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities; serves on special committees as needed. Participates in simulation education. Coordinates and teaches certification courses as directed. Serves as clinical resource and teaches Mock Codes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and directs orientation programs, in-services, competencies, staff development and continuing education for the nursing and auxiliary staff in clinical departments.
Orients new staff members; evaluates skill competencies during the 90-day probationary period; makes recommendations for work improvement plans when necessary.
As directed, mentors new nursing staff through the initial orientation period.
Interacts professionally with the nursing staff and clinical managers to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs, including competencies to meet those needs.
Assists nurse managers with the planning and implementation of staff development programs
Studies current trends, new technology/development, teaching methodologies through professional journals, seminars/conferences, professional societies, etc.
Develops, implements and evaluates a teaching plan that addresses the student's needs, abilities, preferences and readiness to learn.
Develops objectives for each education activity and evaluates presentation and teaching material through staff and student input and suggestions.
Able to put together data from different sources for special projects and prepare reports.
