JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse (Inpatient) - Team Coordinator LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center DEPARTMENT: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings (Weekend and Holidays) WORK TYPE: Full Time JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care and activities on assigned unit. Assists in developing, initiating, and supporting improvements, on the unit level, that facilitate the delivery of high quality, safe and cost effective patient care. Responsible for ensuring that the highest level of care is provided, optimizing all customer interactions, to maximize patient satisfaction. Fosters a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation, and adheres to Geisinger Health System and unit specific service standards. Directly accountable to the Operations Manager of assigned unit. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *A. Leadership (In conjunction with Operations Manager): *1. Fulfills all responsibilities as listed in the charge nurse and RN (Inpatient) job description.
*2. Serves as a strong role model in professional practice as evidenced by strong relationships with staff and members of other departments, effective communications, appropriate resource utilization and sound planning skills.
*3. Provides direct supervision to assigned personnel, assists with orientation and integration of new employees, and builds a sense of pride in employees and promotes good morale.
4. Communicates pertinent information regarding patient care activities and Medical Center operations to appropriate personnel.
*5. Participates in the formulation of nursing policies and goals as well as policies affecting other departments; communicates and interprets policies, procedures and regulations to patients, visitors and staff members, as required. Promotes and supports concepts of positive guest relations.
*6. Communicates significant issues on units to Operations Manager in a timely manner. Assists Operations Manager in addressing system issues.
7. Develops and maintains an effective liaison with physicians, patients, employees, and members of the interprofessional team.
*8. Carries out defined responsibilities in all emergency plans.
9. Responsible for administrative decision making in Operation Manager's absence.
*B. Education/Coaching (In conjunction with Operations Manager): 1. Actively support Magnet philosophies such as a healthy work environment, professional growth and patient and family involvement in care decisions.
*2. Provides feedback to staff or managers for professional practice issues, facilitates/promotes evidence-based practices and research activities.
3. Facilitates attendance of assigned personnel at internal and external educational programs
*4. Serves as a resource for unit issues, mentors staff, delegates actions as appropriate and creates an environment of participation.
*5. Maintains current knowledge base clinically and administratively.
*6. Ensures that staff meets regulatory requirements.
*C. Human Resource Management (In conjunction with Operations Manager): 1. Supports Operations Manager in administrative responsibilities for the unit as delegated (i.e. performance appraisals, monitoring absenteeism, ordering supplies, scheduling 24 hour staffing, patient/bed triage where appropriate).
*D. Strategic Planning/Implementation (Provides Operations Manager with input in regards to): *1. Assures effective, efficient and cost-effective use of physical, financial and human resources.
*E. Service/ Patient/Customer Satisfaction (In conjunction with Operations Manager): 1. Assists with the prevention and/or resolution of patient/family concerns.
2. Assists the operations manager in making patient focused service round on assigned unit.
*F. Risk Management (In conjunction with Operations Manager): *1. Follows up on incidents (patient, procedural and medication) occurring on assigned unit. Assures proper documentation and follow-through.
*2. Assists with addressing performance problems initiating the disciplinary process as appropriate.
*3. Meets with Operations Manager to communicate and resolve specific unit problems.
4. Assumes responsibility for identifying processes or systems that could potentially lead to errors and adverse events and participates in problem resolution of those issues.
G. Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Requires a Registered Nurse currently licensed (or eligible) in the State of Pennsylvania.
Bachelors of Science in Nursing required.
Two years of acute care RN experience required or at least one year of RN acute care experience.
Progressive management experience in a health care setting preferred.
Professional certification in a specialty area required within two years of hire.
Professional membership in specialty of practice preferred.
