This position is responsible for a classroom within the same age group who are at similar developmental levels. Teachers are educators that promote experiences providing high quality, developmentally appropriate, research based, cognitive and emotional outcomes. Teachers understand that the foundations for school and life readiness begins at birth. Teachers will implement the chosen curriculum in a way that accounts for research on brain development and child directed learning. Teaching staff will engage in the pursuit of personal and department wide continuous quality improvement.
Plans and implements the chosen curriculum. Understands child directed learning and play based practice. Classroom planning is based on objective observation and is responsive to the needs of the enrolled children. The philosophy of the program will be supported through the lesson plan implementation and this position will support the highest quality of service.
Uses child directed, research based, best practice as outlined by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation guidelines. Daily lesson plans will meet all developmental domains supporting the whole child and helping children learn to live, play and work cooperatively.
Provides care and learning in a setting that is safe, healthy, nurturing and responsive to each child according to NAEYC accreditation guidelines and State of Alaska licensing standards. May be asked to work collaboratively with new staff as a trainer. Will be required to promote teamwork with families and co-workers through reflective practice. This position will act as a professional demonstrating caring and cooperation that support productive work and professional satisfaction.
Demonstrate knowledge that families and culture are of primary importance in childrens development. Because the family and the early childhood professional have a common interest in the childs well-being, we acknowledge a primary responsibility to bring about communication, cooperation and collaboration between the home and program in ways that enhance the childs development.
Continuous quality improvement will be prioritized through participation in quality initiatives and other learning opportunities.
Will be responsible for the purchasing/ notification of need, for classroom materials that are needed to support childrens learning. Rotation and implementation of classroom environments will be required. Classroom environments will reflect NAEYC accreditation guidelines as well as research based, best practice. Classroom cleaning and upkeep as needed.
Will be required to meet State of Alaska Child Care Licensing, accreditation and mandatory TLC requirements for continuing education and training.Performs all functions according to NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, NAEYC accreditation guidelines and State of Alaska licensing standards.

Associates degree in Early Childhood Development or Child Development, Early Childhood Special Education that encompass the following: child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development, including relevant field-based experience, from an accredited institution is required.
A minimum of three years of experience in a licensed early learning facility. Must be at least 18 years of age, 21 years of age for locations that require being left with children alone. Must have knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practice for each age group represented. Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.
A Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Development, Child Development (including all of the above listed) or related field. If the degree is in a related field it must include 36 college credits in the above listed criteria. (NAEYC accreditation standard 6.A.05)
Requires significant use of computer, phone and general office equipment.
Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects.
Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing and speaking in person or on telephone.
May require off-site travel and/or driving.
