JOB SUMMARY: The outreach program requires the ATC to properly assess, treat and rehabilitate athletic injuries upon the advice consent and/or oral or written prescription of the physician.
The staff athletic trainer's (ATC) primary role shall be in an outreach capacity, and more specifically in their designated high school.
The ATC will also be available to their respective feeder schools when time allows.
While on the designated school's campus, the ATC shall perform much like a member of the athletic staff, covering athletic events, practices and related activities.
While performing in this role, the ATC will function as a liaison between University Medical Center physicians, departments, and the hospital as a whole, and coaches, athletes, parents and the community as a whole.
In the outreach setting, the ATC serves as an ambassador of the hospital to the community.
The secondary role to the staff athletic trainer is to assist the hospital with community events when not involved with their respective schools. Examples include but are not limited to: health fairs, festivals, fun runs, athletic events, etc.
ATHLETIC TRAINING (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate athletic training in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
PATIENT EDUCATION (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
TREATMENT IMPLEMENTATION (NOVICE): - Demonstrates proficiency in providing treatment consistent with physician prescription and established plan of care. Able to modify treatment plan as needed to demonstrate provision of skilled therapy services including progression of treatment throughout course of care, and revision of treatment interventions of goals not met. May supervise and direct certified athletic trainers (PT only), physical therapist / occupational therapist assistants, technicians and volunteers and students. Selects and follows correct protocol for care and utilize evidence based treatments. Has completed at least one year of clinical experience in treatment implementation.
PATIENT EVALUATION (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to conduct a patient evaluation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Capable of effectively assessing the relative merits of alternative products or services.
PATIENT DOCUMENTATION - (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
