Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
The Nursing Manager is responsible for the administration and supervision of nursing personnel in the Surgical Services Department for cost centers 7021 (OR), 7040 (Anesthesia), and 7147 (Endoscopy); and is accountable to the Director of Surgical Services, for coordination of all nursing care given and all related supporting services of these units and personnel.. The main function is that of leadership and promotion of cooperative staff effort. In the absence of the Director of Surgical Services, the Nursing Manager assumes this responsibility and accountability.
The Manager is responsible for the location and completion of assigned functions in the daily operation of the Surgical Services Department. She/He interprets hospital and departmental philosophy, objectives, policy and procedures. Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.
Department Specific Duties: ï¿½Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization. ï¿½Manage the surgical/perioperative areas both operationally and fiscally during tour of duty. ï¿½Act as a clinical resource for perioperative personnel using current literature and guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards. ï¿½Assist perioperative personnel in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement activities. ï¿½Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders. ï¿½Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the surgical area. ï¿½Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care. ï¿½Use effective conflict resolution techniques. ï¿½Collect and analyze data applicable to perioperative services to facilitate collaboration and negotiation with stakeholders. ï¿½Participate in interviews for perioperative personnel selection. ï¿½Assist in evaluating perioperative personnel performance. ï¿½Monitor that necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies are available. ï¿½Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to surgical team. ï¿½Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization. ï¿½Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. ï¿½Develop staff work and call schedule in collaboration with staff ï¿½Conducts evaluations for new staff at the completion of the probationary period. ï¿½Participates in the disciplinary process as needed. ï¿½Monitors staff compliance with policy and procedures ï¿½Provides counseling and disciplinary measures to personnel ï¿½Monitors the department environmental daily and assures surveillance of safety, regulatory and infection prevention ï¿½Assures staff knowledge of regulatory requirements including fire and disaster safety ï¿½Reviews electrical safety and assures all equipment is maintained and inspected ï¿½Reports environmental problems to appropriate support departments ï¿½Encourages and atmosphere of responsiveness to physician needs and requests ï¿½Demonstrates commitment to continually improving service scores and core measures ï¿½Provides assistance to surgeons through case readiness and adequately prepared team members ï¿½Attends leadership meetings and serves on hospital/departmental committees ï¿½Monitors budget compliance ï¿½Provides input into the preparation of the budget ï¿½Demonstrates cost reduction strategies ï¿½Assists with departmental statistical analysis
ï¿½Current RN licensure in the State of California ï¿½Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (maintain current at all times) ï¿½CNOR Preferred ï¿½Bachelorï¿½s Degree, MSN Preferred ï¿½3 years clinical experience in Surgical Services ï¿½2 years progressive management experience in surgical services area(s) ï¿½Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills ï¿½Demonstrates knowledge of current nursing theory and practice ï¿½Compassionate, non-judgmental patient caregiver and advocate ï¿½Must be able to tolerate physically and mentally demanding work
