Deliver direct clinical services and work performance coaching to faculty and staff for the Work/Life Connections-EAP, Vanderbilt's internal employee assistance program. The Work/Life Connections-EAP FPWP Clinical Psychologist is responsible for making independent decisions regarding clinical assessment, treatment planning, and management of caseload; recommendations for employee return to work within the Program guidelines. Reports to and provides services under the supervision of the Work/Life Connections-EAP Assistant Manager.
Welcome to Work/Life Connections-EAP, the internal employee assistance program of Vanderbilt within Health and Wellness for Faculty and Staff. Our offices are located in the basement floor of the Medical Arts Building at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. We provide assessment, brief solutions focused counseling, performance coaching, consultation services for managers, critical incident stress management, referral, case management, recovery support and monitoring, and skill building workshops for the Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center faculty and staff.
Our experienced service-oriented clinical care is delivered by the collaborative, team-focused efforts of a multi-disciplinary EAP team including Clinical Licensed Clinical Social Workers, a Master Nurse Clinician, Licensed Professional Counselors, Clinical Psychologist, and Consulting Psychiatrists. Our Leadership Team is comprised of our Health and Wellness Executive Director, Medical Director, Manager, Assistant Manager, and Lead Administrative Assistant.

Conducts assessment and referral of employees with personal and job-related problems.
Provides short-term counseling, as appropriate.
Delivers performance coaching for workplace problem behaviors
Provides case management functions for faculty and physician clients.
Provides crisis-intervention and CISM (critical incident stress management services) for individuals and groups of employees in response to traumatic events as needed.
Monitors and supports faculty and staff in recovery from chemical dependency, particularly the impaired physicians, faculty and nurses. Arranges their re-entry into the workplace as appropriate. Works closely with the Professional Assistance Programs and treatment centers. Intervenes as needed with employees who do not comply with agreement. Conducts discharge planning meetings with employees and counselor at the treatment center.
Performs management consultations to facilitate early identification, intervention and referral of employees with job performance problems.
Participates on an as needed basis with policy initiatives especially related to the Drug Free Workplace and Violence in the Workplace.
Assists with training's and educational workshops as appropriate.
Maintains confidentiality of all Work/Life Connections-EAP client records. Provides documentation of client's biopsychosocial needs, assessment and treatment plan recommendations.
Participates in Work/Life Connections-EAP clinical meetings to discuss Work/Life Connections-EAP client cases, particularly complex cases requiring supervision.
Coordinates the return to work transition with employees and managers, as appropriate. Employees may have been hospitalized (inpatient and/or outpatient) due to a medical condition. This condition may be due to physical health, psychiatric or substance abuse.
Serves a liaison between Work/Life Connections-EAP, Human Resource Services and other departments.
Job-related Skills: Position requires an advanced level of clinical and coaching experience; familiarity with and expertise in responding to complex and sensitive workplace issues; demonstrated ability in both written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of human resource functions, clinical supervision skills, organizational consultation skills. Also, position requires knowledge of and ability to work with the diverse workforce of a hospital and university; including multi-cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, educational, and age specific populations; knowledge of Vanderbilt policy and procedures, federal, state and local laws and regulation regarding alcohol and other drugs, employee relations-labor relations, disability, mental health and worker's compensation; a working knowledge of and the ability to intervene in a broad range of clinical problems such as behavioral, family, interpersonal, parent-child, substance abuse and suicidal/homicide risk.
Clinical Psychologist with broad mental health counseling and coaching experience preferred. Minimum of 5 years mental health, performance coaching, or EAP experience, internal model EAP experience preferred, particularly in a health care setting desired. Clinical experience should include coaching, counseling, mental health and substance abuse assessment, case management, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy.
