About JAMHI Health & Wellness
JAMI (Juneau Alliance for Mental Illness) was founded in 1985 as a family-driven, grass-roots advocacy organization that provided a range of residential support services for adults with severe and chronic mental illness and was Juneau’s National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) affiliate. In Juneau, general mental health and emergency mental health services had been provided by the City and Borough of Juneau for a number of years, but were discontinued in the early 90s and JAMI was asked to assume these functions. JAMI became JAMHI (Juneau Alliance for Mental Health, Inc.) and assumed the role as the state-designated Community Mental Health Center in 2000 and continues to fulfill that responsibility today. In 2011 JAMHI became accredited by CARF International and continues to use the CARF accreditation standards to continuously improve the quality of services provided. In 2014 JAMHI applied for and was awarded a 5-year federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) primary behavioral health care integration project (PBHCHI) grant and began providing physical healthcare to the adults with mental illness served. In 2015 JAMHI piloted a Dartmouth University I...nShape wellness program and wellness services became identifiable elements of the JAMHI service array. In 2017 JAMHI re-organized specifically to improve its integration of a wide range of services consistent with best practices for comprehensive integrated care. In 2018 JAMHI became JAMHI Health & Wellness, Inc. when it merged with another local non-profit the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence – Juneau Affiliate (NCADD-J). In addition to adding a range of prevention services the merger provided opportunity for JAMHI to expand services again, this time adding clinical substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services. Also in 2018 a new clinic at Juneau’s Housing First program called Forget-Me-Not-Manor was established: JAMHI Health & Wellness Midtown Clinic. Today JAMHI Health & Wellness remains a non-profit, comprehensive, dual-diagnosis capable, community behavioral health center, serving the Juneau area including the outlying communities of Gustavus, Elfin Cove, and Tenakee Springs in Southeast Alaska. JAMHI is committed to a person-centered philosophy of welcoming, accessible, integrated, continuous and comprehensive psychiatric rehabilitation, while maximizing recovery and self-determination.
