The Surgical ICU at the University of Minnesota Medical Center is a 28 bed unit that has adult surgical patients who require continuous monitoring including neurosurgery, transplant, and general surgery.

This unit provides care to critically ill adult patients that have had surgery or trauma which require close observation and monitoring and interventions. The RN will performs advanced monitoring using current technology, manage complex medication and infusion therapies, care for patient undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit and they will demonstrate the ability to safely and accurately operate unit equipment.

About this position:

• 60 hours every two weeks (.75) on the night shift
• Benefit eligible
• 12 hour shifts, working every 3rd weekend

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Required:

• MN RN License
• BLS required
• AD required

Preferred:

• BSN or higher preferred
• Certification in related specialty is highly desired
• A minimum of one year current medical surgical RN experience in a Hospital setting is preferred
• One year adult critical care experience is preferred
• Certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing or in a related specialty is highly preferred
