What you will be responsible for:
The Manager, Simulation Operations manages Simulation Operations Specialists and Simulation Operations Program Managers that execute operational-level simulation learning activities, simulation-based education and scenario-based training for the AdventHealth American Heart Training Center, the AdventHealth Orlando system, and associated programs/partners, including Graduate Medical Education, and AdventHealth University. Possesses operational and technical mastery in all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, implementation, hardware/software updates, and repair of all AdventHealth Medical Simulation and Training resources, such as the human patient simulator systems, simulation task trainers, associated medical equipment, and computer/audiovisual systems. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision/management of staff, managing simulation programs, managing simulation operations and logistics management, market research and data collection, and simulation education support. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages all assigned Simulation Operations staff and team activities on a daily basis, including full human resources, cost and financial accountabilities. Responsible for performance reviews and provides input on direct reports for human resource decisions such as hiring, promotions and disciplinary actions. Attracts talent, develops staff, and implements an effective performance management process. Receives assignments and objectives and determines tactical approach, resources required, goals, and plan of action with milestones. Works within prescribed guidelines and applies technical knowledge to solve complex problems which may have long-term impact on a department. Creates an effective working environment where communication, professional development and quality are always encouraged. Maintains positive relations, acting as liaison with employees, physicians, patients and community.
Responsible for all aspects of simulation/training/exercise programs including strategic planning, execution and sustainment. Develops budgets and briefs to department leadership and stakeholders for funding approval. Oversees cost, schedule and performance of assigned programs. Responsible for budget adherence and reporting. Ensures all resources required to fulfill simulation-related programs are provided and sustained. Able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, working with various departments to ensure the projects are executed smoothly according to hospital guidelines. Ability to effectively lead small and large teams of individuals in support of assigned programs and missions.
Leads the team that operates all human patient simulator systems, simulation task trainers, associated medical equipment and computer/audiovisual equipment during training exercises. Facilitates operational and technical aspects of post-exercise debriefings using various audiovisual platforms. Troubleshoots technical issues related to networking, audiovisual platforms, and/or simulation equipment. Ensures simulations/events are fully immersive and adhere to accepted best practices in simulation learning including proper room orientation, environmental realism, and application of medical moulage and simulated medical conditions to human patient simulators and/or Standardized Patients/role players.
Manages the maintenance of all assigned team equipment, including simulators and computer/audiovisual, to ensure proper working order, appropriate maintenance, warranty support, and software updates within assigned program(s). Oversees medical supply inventory procedures required to enhance the delivery of simulation learning within assigned program(s). Maintains accurate inventory of equipment (simulators, hardware and software) and supplies. Forecasts and approves supply reorders as necessary. Ensures team safely transports equipment to various locations for simulation training purposes.
Serves as an expert liaison to campuses/programs/hospital leaders for technical assistance and expertise related to operational and technical aspects of simulators and computer/audiovisual equipment for simulation learning. Provides assistance and guidance to customers for simulated learning preparation, set-up, course/scenario facilitation, and post-exercise break down/clean up. Ensures all program requirements are being met across multiple departments/service lines.
Assists with curriculum development and strategic planning specific to the operational and technical aspects of scenarios/curriculum related to assigned programs. Maintains expertise in adult learning principles, industry standards, medical terminology and best practice for simulated learning. Expert in conducting simulation pre-briefs and debriefs, integrating with Simulation Learning Strategists and Campus Educators. Collaborates with leaders and education staff to develop and design simulation scenarios. Guides and oversees the development, management and facilitation all concurrency training for Simulation Operations Specialist and Simulation Operations Program Manager staff members
Expert in the operation of AdventHealth’s enterprise-wide simulation IT system. Ensures exercise planning and execution data is captured and standardized. Designs, collects and analyzes data from completed simulation scenarios. Interprets data analysis and provides meaningful reports to department leaders and stakeholders. Conducts market research from vendors throughout the simulation community, advising department stakeholders and leaders on how to best implement new simulation technology. Attends medical simulation conferences, collaborating with the simulation community, gathering the latest information and disseminates among the department.
Continually assesses opportunities for improvement in all aspects of learning technologies. Identifies and incorporates new technologies into existing learning environments. Actively collaborates with department and hospital leaders on improving best practices in simulation learning including curriculum development, simulation technology utilization, and simulation staff training techniques to improve patient outcomes, patient safety and staff safety.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Solid management skills, initiative and self-direction.
Advanced applied knowledge of simulation principles, practice and methodologies.
Expert in the application of clinical IT simulations systems, IT platforms and simulator capabilities including Laerdal, Gaumard, CAE Healthcare and EMS SimulationIQ Enterprise.
Demonstrated ability to apply education curriculum and training plans provided by clinical and non- clinical educators.
Strong needs assessment/training gap analysis skills; competent in curriculum/scenario development.
Mastery of logistics management and inventory control.
Expert in application of medical moulage and simulated wound/conditions application to Standardized Patients and manikins.
Effective, professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to instruct, present, and communicate effectively to all levels of staff, including physicians and clinical/non-clinical leaders.
Strong leadership and team building experience.
Proven ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals.
Effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
Expertise in exercise development, instruction and debriefing.
Expert in networking/IT design and terminology.
Demonstrated performance of large-scale simulation program/project management duties.
Expertise in Mac OS, gaming environments and mobile device platforms and software.
Expertise in statistical software such as Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
What you will need:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Simulation, Technology, Education, Healthcare, Business or applicable discipline.
Three (3) years of functional area experience in simulation operation/education/training, preferably with human patient simulator platforms and audiovisual equipment/operating software.
One (1) years of management/leadership experience.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
· Master’s degree in Simulation, Technology, Education, Healthcare, Business or applicable discipline.
· Formal simulation-related education such as Master’s level certificate(s).
· Five (5) years of training exercise and leadership development experience.
· Five (5) years of experience in direct patient care within hospital or clinical setting.
· Registered Nurse, Licensed Practice Nurse, or Respiratory Therapist, Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Department Technician.
· Experience in healthcare, simulation and/or instruction delivery as a trainer or instructor.
· College level anatomy and physiology education
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· Florida Class E Driver’s License and driving record in accordance with AdventHealth Policy.
· Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification.
· Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional (CMSP) certification.
· Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider (ACLS) certification.
· Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider (PALS) certification.
