POSITION SUMMARY This position will ensure that business, ancillary services, and operational processes are efficient, cost effective, meet University of Arizona (UA) and Banner requirements, and improve physician and patient satisfaction. The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the direction of the clinical and financial activities of a high-volume, fast-paced clinical division(s). The CDM is expected to actively participate in the development and implementation of short and long-term division business planning in conjunction with the Division Chief(s) and Department Administration. The CDM is jointly responsible for the financial health of the Division's clinical operations. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Assist in the oversight of business operations for the Division(s) within the Department of Medicine. 2. Under the direction of Division Chief(s), assist in the development and implementation of division business/strategic planning documents. Conduct market analysis, analyze industry trends and recommend business strategies. Carry out these initiatives to ensure division growth and alignment with Department of Medicine (DoM) goals. 3. Under the direction of the Division Chief(s), assist in faculty recruitment, including development of the financial proforma, appointment process, credentialing and other related hiring requirements. 4. Develop and monitor administrative infrastructure to support division(s) operations to include staffing levels, compensation plan, organizational development, recruitment and retention as well as team building. 5. Provide monthly management report to Department Administrator and management team. 6. Develop, implement, evaluate, and monitor business operating policies, procedures, and management tools in accordance with UA/Banner standards and guidelines. 7. Investigate and resolve provider complaints, concerns, or issues as needed. 8. Work with Banner leadership to develop and implement processes for new and existing programs and systems to maximize efficiency and revenue. 9. This position interacts with all levels of management and employees, both internally and externally, which includes business, non-clinical and clinical support function leaders, and recruiters. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must possess a strong knowledge of business, non-clinical and clinical support functions as normally obtained through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Three years of management experience in a healthcare setting; or, seven years of progressive management experience in a healthcare setting with extensive knowledge of academic hospital and physician practice operations. Extensive knowledge of business, non-clinical and clinical support functions in healthcare is required. Must demonstrate excellent human relations, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills. Experience using computers, word processing, spreadsheet and database software required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Strong physician relationship development skills. Familiarity with graduate medical education operations and policies. Demonstrated management/leadership, decision-making, and critical thinking skills. Proven verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set and communicate priorities, effectively planning and organizing the work of the group. Experience with budgeting, planning, reporting, and business systems. Ability to develop, interpret, implement, evaluate and monitor financial documents, analyses and policies and procedures. Ability to work independently. Lead by setting an appropriate example and manage stressful situations and change effectively while fostering teamwork. Willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks is necessary to succeed in this position. Additional related education and/or experience preferred. |
