| The Addiction Therapist serves as an expert in addiction services for a multidisciplinary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) team. This position is in the Mental Health Service Line at the Hot springs, South Dakota campus of the Black Hills VA Health Care System. Telework, if approved, would be on an AD-HOC basis. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Conduct psychosocial assessments. Provide psychotherapy for the amelioration of mental health conditions. Develop psychosocial treatment plans with attention to individual needs/concerns Provide psychosocial interventions for individuals, groups and families. Provide crisis oriented, brief, short-term psychotherapy to Veterans, their significant others, and groups. Utilize standardized assessments in the assessment of mental health conditions. Develop information and referral resources and services. Develop community linkages and coordinate the clinical application of community services Provide admission and discharge planning services. Provide care management and coordination services. Document in computerized medical record and identify co-signers, if indicated by level of licensure. Provide Veteran advocacy/patient rights services. Provide psychosocial crisis intervention services. Provide patient and family education services. Screen for substance abuse, tobacco use, depression and suicide risk, PTSD and, depending on assignment, provide treatment services with supervision, within scope and current licensure. Complete full suicide risk assessment per medical center policy. Place and complete consults relevant to area of assignment and complete any additional screenings as required. Provide consultation to colleagues; render professional opinions based on experience and expertise. Utilize outcome evaluations to further treatment and designs system changes based on empirical findings. Provide case management services in a specialized area of practice to Veterans who tend to have serious health, mental health needs and severe crises may lack familial and community support, may be poor self-monitors, may fail to adhere to treatment, or have major deficits in coping skills and require continuing professional psychological support. Adhere to HIPPA and privacy regulations and VHA Directives related to Release of Information. Participate fully in peer review, assessing the quality of professional licensed counselor practice standards provided in the organization. Identify Veteran problems requiring consultation with other multi-disciplinary medical center staff and make appropriate referrals. Assure that appropriate referrals to specialty programs, including community resources are accomplished. Complete mandating reporting to local agencies as appropriate for any reports of abuse/neglect. Provide and, where appropriate, refer patients, families and significant others for counseling in health maintenance and disease prevention.
