Nursing Assistants in the Float Pool will be deployed to a variety of settings across the continuum of care provided at the main campus, including, but not limited to acute care, critical care, inpatient psychiatric care, the emergency department, and the Community Living Center, as determined by organizational staffing, census, and acuity needs. This announcement is open to U.S. Citizens, current permanent employees of the VA apply here: - Utilizes glucose monitoring machine to receive glucose readings for patients, reports deviation to appropriate health care staff. - Provides direct care for complex medical and psychiatric conditions. - Makes observations of subtle changes in condition, i.e. behavior shifts, mood, skin coloring, appetite, etc. and takes action accordingly within the NA's assigned role. - Documents care given, observations and responses on appropriate tools or forms. - Responds appropriately to subtle patient changes by contacting the appropriate nursing personnel. - Monitor and documents patient intake and output reports deviations timely and accurately. - Performs nursing procedures within scope of practice and according to policies and standard procedures to care for the Veteran for such procedures but not limited to: enemas, catheterization, colostomy care, skin care simple dressing, application of braces and prosthetic devices. - Works on small group activities with patients according to the patients treatment plan. - Recognizes the patients' autonomy and promotes independence by means of respect, limit setting and individualized treatment. - Utilizes equipment to promote Veteran self-care, such as lift equipment and Patient Wandering System. - Verbally provides patient information to the treatment team for inclusion in the patients' plan of care, participates in treatment team meetings for resident care planning. - Enters information about the patient's' condition in the chart, utilizing appropriate formats. - Participates in maintaining a clean, safe environment for the patient/resident. - Removes defective equipment, reports hazards, observes safety regulations, contributes to infection control, and utilizes proper aseptic technique in performance of duties. - May serve as the unit safe patient handling liaison. - May serve as preceptor and mentor to other NA's. - Orients members of the health care team to the units as appropriate. - Provides specialized personal nursing care to Veterans and perform treatments and procedures requiring skills and extensive knowledge specific to Veteran conditions, medical treatment, and an understanding of the effects of the treatment. Work Schedule: Full-time permanent, Days (0730-2000), Mids (1130-2400) and Nights (1930-0800) are all available (May require days, nights, weekends, rotating shifts and holidays). The incumbent is expected to be flexible and versatile from shift to shift. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required.
