The primary purpose of this position is to provide Health Care aid at the Health Care System VISN and facility levels. The position is responsible for delivering a broad array of health care services throughout the Medical Center, and it's various locations that provide in patient care, such as but not limited to the living centers. These positions are located at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. ***This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until May 31st, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be February 15th, 2021, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st and 15th of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. *** The Health Aid is responsible for performing selected Veteran transports to different areas including but not limited to X-ray, CT Scan, MRI, Prosthetics, Sonography and other related areas. The Health aid is expected to develop and demonstrate increasing skills in performing a variety of tasks. Duties of the position include and are not limited to: Provides holistic in-patient care to Veterans in a manner conducive to the comfort and safety of those in the facility hospital units, living centers and/or household Protect, sustain, and nurture the resident by providing assistance as needed with activities of daily living, and with other needs as required in accordance with established policies and procedures to assure that the highest degree of resident's quality of life and care is maintained Works independently and or as a part of the team. Able to determine the differences of both physical and psychological effects of aging and/or physical/mental impairments Uses and follows proper hand hygiene, universal precautions and general infection control principles Educates, role models, and assists inpatients/residents and families in adhering to infection control principles throughout the facility Maintains general cleanliness of the healthcare environment Distributes canteen books and incidentals Incumbent carries records, reports, laboratory specimens, x-rays, prosthetic equipment and patient prescriptions to designated areas Performs a range of clinical support duties, which include taking, recording vital signs and reporting deviations to the RN or Provider Observe and report changes in patient's physical condition, pain levels, and/or behavioral changes Recognizes and institutes appropriate action in emergency situations such as performing CPR, Heimlich maneuver for choking, seizure precautions and safety during seizures, and emergency first aid Establishes and promotes effective working relationships with other employees on the treatment team Respects patients' rights ,e.g. maintains privacy, confidentiality, and self-determination Obtains equipment and supplies and assists the RN and/or medical provider(s) when he/she performs procedures when appropriate and within skills and knowledge Wears VA name badge above waist at all times Maintains safe and sanitary environment for patients, staff and visitors Other related tasks as assigned Work Schedule: 7:30am - 4:00pm OR 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Health Aid (TEMPORARY)/ 99917-A Physical Requirements: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with residents requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities.
