JOB SUMMARY The Unit Medical Technician maintains and stocks patient care supplies and cleans equipment, as directed by the supply chain supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Performs all high-level disinfection of appropriate equipment in the Emergency Department. Ensures that patient care areas are maintained in a constant state of medical readiness. Completes daily check of assigned patient care areas 100% of time. Maintains patient care supplies in all appropriate areas and completes quarterly checks for expired items. Maintains equipment properly and distributes to appropriate areas (patient rooms, cart rooms, trauma rooms, backboard rooms and nurse's stations). Transports instruments to IP to be cleaned, e.g. C-Mac blades, Endoscopes etc. Ensures excess supplies are put away appropriately in stock locations throughout the facility. Notifies the appropriate personnel of any supplies and equipment required for patient care that is damaged, low or out of stock. Assists with removal of used but reusable pre-hospital equipment from patient care area, and stores equipment in proper location as needed. Performs required equipment checks regularly, and documents findings appropriately. Collaborates with the staff to optimize the flow of pertinent patient information. Communicates changes in status to the nurse. Promotes positive customer relations for patients, families, visitors and staff. Collaborates with all staff members to achieve patient satisfaction. Evaluates and provides for the needs of each customer to enhance the quality of care and comfort. Contacts Environmental Services to maintain a clean, obstruction-free lobby area and sanitary restrooms. KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Knowledge of cleaning materials and methods. Team working skills. Basic verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to work with chemical cleaners. Ability to withstand exposure to noise and airborne particles.
