The Outpatient Mental Health Nurse is assigned to Behavioral Medicine service and is a professional RN who provides high-quality, evidence-base care for a culturally diverse Veteran population with complex behavioral problems. These services are provided in a Outpatient setting utilizing all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. The Outpatient Mental Health RN provides care to Veterans who commonly present with acute episodes of schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders, bipolar and related disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and stressor related disorders, neurocognitive disorders and substance related and addictive disorders. Some of the patients may present with a concomitant substance use intoxication that may need detoxification while being treated for their presenting psychiatric disorder. Patients are likely to present with co-morbid medical conditions, functional decline and unstable living conditions. The outpatient Mental Health RN will operate equipment under the direction of a Physician or Nurse Practitioner including, but not limited to, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation equipment.. The RN in the Outpatient setting functions as part of an interdisciplinary team and is accountable for care to a defined group of patients for his/her caseload/assignments. The incumbent is also accountable for specific nursing duties such as medications, vital signs, reminders, and participation in groups as assigned. May be assigned responsibility as a preceptor to new staff/trainees and other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. work schedule, but schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the service. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
