The Birmingham VA is currently recruiting for one Physician - Physiatrist to assist during the COVID19 pandemic. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 30, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 9 April 2021. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals, every Friday, or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to: ~Develops and implements complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for complex patients in need of interdisciplinary neurorehabilitation. ~Provides comprehensive evaluation and management of spasticity including both medication management, botulism toxin injection, intrathecal baclofen pump evaluation and management, etc. ~Provides peripheral joint injections and other intramuscular injections as indicated to facilitate the rehabilitation process. ~Effectively evaluates patients with history of recent and remote concussive injuries, and provides treatment for common manifestations of Post Concussive Syndrome, such as headache and insomnia. ~Writes sound prescriptions for required adaptive equipment including both manual and powered mobility, prosthetic limbs, and other necessary rehabilitative equipment. ~Effectively provides diagnostic evaluation, examination, and interdisciplinary treatment planning to meet general musculoskeletal rehabilitative needs of Veterans. ~Serves as a medical and administrative leader of the inpatient rehabilitation team participating in continued readiness for our continued Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), as well as ongoing monitoring of outcome trends. including but not limited to length of stay, functional outcomes, and efficiencies of obtaining functional goals. ~Confidently and professionally collaborates with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams of therapists, psychologists, social workers, other physicians, nurses, etc. to meet a patient's complex rehabilitative needs. ~Fulfils the educational mission of VA by providing bedside and didactic teaching for students, residents, and fellows. ~Collects data, analyzes data, implements changes based on analyses results in their specialty area. ~Participates in facility, regional, and national activities as a subject matter expert as needed to support the overall VA mission to provide outstand comprehensive healthcare. ~Other duties as assigned.
