| The Eastern Colorado Veterans Health System (ECHCS), is currently recruiting for two (2) Nursing Assistant, for the H2IPU unit, at the Rocky Mountain VA Medical Center, Aurora Colorado. . This position is located in Patient Care Services. The purpose of this position is to provide a range of patient care services in the Eastern Colorado Healthcare system. The incumbent will serve as a member of the nursing team. Work is reviewed by a Registered Nurse (RN). Performs a variety of nursing care tasks, including bathing, skin care, feedings, positioning, turning and lifting patients. Performs the variety of nursing care tasks including bathing, skin care, feedings, positioning, turning, and lifting patients. Provides safe/therapeutic milieu management by performing continual rounding and environmental checks each shift; removing hazardous items as needed. Observes safety, sanitary, and fire rules/regulations. Recognizes and reports safety hazards and the need to initiate measures to eliminate the hazard and prevent injury. Recognizes and reports emergencies and responds appropriately. Cares for patients with communicable diseases for which standard precautions are required. Provides urinary/catheter care to include perineal hygiene. Assists with the rehabilitation of patients and in the prevention of deformities by correct position, and assisting with activities of daily living including ambulation. Performs range of motion activities. Takes and records vital signs to include temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure; and measuring height and weight. Provides emotional support to patients/families. Respects patients' rights and dignity, including privacy and confidentiality. Assists in supervising patients in transfer activities, personal hygiene, preventing spread of infectious diseases, and in the preventive and rehabilitative aspects of care. Follows Medical Center and Nursing Service policies and procedures for inventorying and securing patients' belongings, to include valuables and prosthetic devices such as dentures, hearing aids, eyes, and limbs. Observes and reports both obvious and more subtle changes in patients' condition or emotional status. Collects urine, sputum, and stool specimens. Observes and maintains milieu and individual patient safety through dayroom monitoring and safety checks, such as documenting patients' locations and activity. Initiates cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in accordance with Medical Center Policy. Assists with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients according to Medical Center and Nursing Service Policy. Performs other assignments appropriate to level of training as directed by the nurse in charge. Work Schedule: 40-hour work week requiring staff to be available 24/7 Sunday through Saturday. Shifts from 0:700 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 07:00 a.m. - 07:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. - 07:30 a.m., 11:00 p.m. - 07:30 a.m. Candidate must be willing to work 8- or 12-hour shifts, or a combination of both, weekends, holidays, irregular work hours and extended hours.
