This position serves as a Medical Technician within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare Center (VAGCVHCS) located in Biloxi, Mississippi. You will be responsible for providing phlebotomy and patient care to Veterans and their beneficiaries, as appropriate to their cognitive and emotional needs, with patients ranging in age from toddlers to elderly. ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Performing phlebotomies using proper techniques and acquired skills in the collection of blood specimens, including correct identification, aseptic techniques, correct containers and orders of draw; Collecting urine, including using proper midstream clean catch procedures, preserving the integrity of the sample and preparing samples for transport; Correctly triaging patients; Practicing universal precautions, maintaining aseptic working environment and observing safety rules; and Adhering to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace. NOTE: This position is part-time (20 hours/week). The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule. Work Schedule: Varying Shifts between 5:00am - 5:00pm. DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
