The Health Technician (Radiology) position primary duty is to provide technical assistance in the Imaging Department for inpatients and outpatients. This position is located at the Audie L. Murphy VAMC in San Antonio, Texas within Imaging Service. Duties may include but are not limited to: 1) Obtaining patient histories 2) Conducting specific observations and examination procedures 3) Preforming diagnostic and therapeutic tasks 4) Assisting Imaging Supervisors with tasks that are in the scope of the health technician 5) Assisting Veteran with screening forms. 6) Venipuncture and lab specimen drawing using established phlebotomy practices 7) Choosing clothing and assisting or supporting changing process. 8) Assist with physical movement, such as walking or repositioning. 9) Perform temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation measurements, measuring height and weight. 10) Perform patient transfers in support of the primary care clinics 11) Provides general clerical/administrative support for the clinic 12) Makes gross visual observations and identifies subtle changes regarding the patient's condition. 13) Monitors patients for adverse reactions and takes corrective action based on established policy and experience. 14) Assists medical staff with performing diagnostic procedures. 15) Performs specialized tests and measurements that are preliminary to imaging of the patient 16) Locates and sets up equipment and all accessories and understands proper positioning. 17) Receives requests or instructions for procedures. Interprets requests or instructions for medical or health care personnel. 18) Secures patients' confidence and cooperation during procedures 19) Assist imaging staff in MRI, CT, and Ultrasound in including obtaining patient screening forms, informing technologists of implants, devices, or residual metal in the body, and changing the patient into scrubs for their imaging exams. 20) Stocks department. Performs general maintenance duties including cleaning, arranging, and restocking supply cabinets, cleaning and sorting supplies, coils, and equipment, calling attention to deficiencies in supplies and equipment. 21) Record keeping: a. Record Veteran's inability to perform imaging exams b. Record Veteran's behaviors or other required charting c.
