You will serve as a Physician (Pediatrics) in the Pediatric Department of Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command San Diego California.
THIS IS A DHA. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain DOD civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the DOD.
- You will serve as an expert in the delivery of Pediatric Medical Care to patients from birth to young adulthood.
- You will perform pediatric care to include evaluations, review of medical records and family history, physical examinations, patient and family education, preventative counseling, disease treatment.
- You will apply new procedures in the evaluation and treatment of complex patient cases and conducts research for the advancement of the Pediatric program and for quality improvement to other providers and patients.
- You will perform emergency services or crisis intervention, including life-saving emergency procedures.
- You will provide advice by telephone and/ or in person to other physicians, non-physician providers, and other professional medical staff on the care of patients with urgent, emergent, and non-urgent medical problems.
- You will evaluate the care provided to patients, identifies opportunities to change the care delivered, advices on difficult or complex cases, and recommends corrective action when problems exist.

- You will be required to meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.
- Up-to-date immunizations/vaccinations and a seasonal influenza required.
- A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required.
- Possess and maintain a BLS Basic Life Support Certification
- Possess and maintain a PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification
- Possess and maintain an ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual. Applicants must possess:
- DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. If your Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree is from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, you must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country, or successfully completed the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
- LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- GRADUATE TRAINING: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
This experience/training will provide comprehensive pediatric medical care to a broad range of patients from birth to young adulthood with both common and complex medical concerns; care includes diagnosis, prevention, therapy, maintenance and rehabilitation for enrolled patients within the scope of clinical privileges; will also serve as a recognized expert, consultant, faculty member, and/ or advisor on boards and committees, in conferences, and other activities.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position have selective placement factors that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factors are:
- Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification
- Possession of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Healthcare Providers Certification
- Possession of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification
Applicants must also be able to satisfy clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
- Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible
- Completion of a fellowship program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible
- Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice a Pediatric Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required)
- No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges
- Board certification is desired but not required
