Butler VA Healthcare Patient Service Like is seeking a Medical Instrument Technician- Echocardiography. The Incumbent will perform the full spectrum of echocardiogram and vascular ultrasound procedures using Doppler and Duplex ultrasound. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. All persons employed in VHA in this occupation on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series and grade held, including positive education and licensure/certification/registration that are part of the basic requirements of the occupation. For employees who do not meet all the basic requirements required in this standard, but who met the qualifications applicable to the position at the time they were appointed to it, the following provisions apply: Such employees in an occupation that does not require a licensure/certification/registration, may be reassigned, promoted, or demoted within the occupation. Preferred Experience: The preferred candidate would have successfully completed an accredited education program and be a Registered cardiovascular Technologist with at least one year of experience. The registered technologist will hold and maintain current Cardiac Diagnostic Sonographer (ARDMS), and Vascular Sonographer (RVT) certification in good standing. Experience: At least 1 year experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. This would be experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge required in order to provide all aspects of echocardiography services. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. KSAs 1, 2, and 3 are appropriate for all positions at this level. KSAs 4 and 5 are to be used in accordance with their appropriateness for the specific assignment. 1. Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures, and protocols, that pertain to Echocardiography. *2. Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. 3. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels. *4. ["This position serves as a cardiovascular ultrasonographer at Butler VA Health Care. In this role, the incumbent performs the full spectrum of echocardiogram and vascular ultrasound procedures using Doppler and Duplex ultrasound. The incumbent must be competent in the production, use, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images for patient diagnosis and treatment. The sonographer is regarded as the expert source in ultrasound imaging and the interpreting radiologist/provider rely on the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the sonographer in providing a final interpretation. The incumbent will independently perform standard diagnostic studies such as: Venous duplex, Arterial Doppler, AAA screening, and Carotid duplex studies. They must perform complex studies such as; Vein mapping, Arteriovenous fistula, Endovascular aneurysm repair, Arterial duplex of bypass grafts, Superior mesenteric artery duplex, Renal duplex, and Reflux studies. This position also manages the administrative aspects of the Radiology Clinic, including scheduling, interfacing with VISTA Imaging and PACS, importing all exam data and results into the medical record, and coordinating with off-site radiology providers (both contracted and VA- based). Major Duties, Responsibilities, and Functions include but are not limited to: Schedules exams in a manner so as to optimize equipment times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases. This requires the ability to prioritize scheduled patients as well as the ability to accommodate the emergency patient. In addition to exams scheduled for the Butler VA Radiology Clinic, the incumbent coordinates scheduling, screening, and preparation work for exams at off-site radiology service providers (both contracted and VA-based). Performs a full range of echocardiogram and vascular ultrasound procedures, operates diagnostic equipment using Doppler and Duplex ultrasound to document extremity blood flow, blood pressures and circulation. Performs cardiac studies of the heart and valves, chamber enlargement and pericardial effusions, using 2-D mode Doppler echocardiography including 3D imaging, color flow Doppler echocardiography, and M-Mode Color Doppler echocardiography. Operates diagnostic equipment using Doppler and Duplex ultrasound to document extremity blood flow, blood pressures, and circulation. Performs a wide range of ultrasound examinations including but not limited to: aorta, inferior vena cava, portal vein, hepatic artery, SMA, renal arteries and veins, iliac arteries and veins, scrotum and testes with vascular documentation, evaluation for the functional integrity of TIPS shunt with spectral and color Doppler imaging. Performs a full range of vascular studies including: Venous duplex, Arterial Doppler, and AAA screening. Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00 - 4:30 PM.
