This announcement is for a full-time Senior Social Worker in the Addiction Treatment Programs at Truman VA. The Senior Social Worker in this role will have a range of responsibilities in support of our 14-bed Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program and our outpatient specialty addictions programs. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program, see below for additional information. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Truman VA in Columbia, Missouri is recruiting for a Senior Social Worker in Addiction Treatment Programs (ATP). Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. The candidate must have at least five years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. Licensure/Certification. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. (b) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. (c) Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. (d) Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. (e) Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area. Preferred Experience: Experience and training in working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions in outpatient and/or residential settings. Experience, training, and expertise in providing evidence-based psychotherapies for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-12. Physical Requirements: The work requires sitting, bending, stooping and walking consistent with the delivery of services in the office, hospital and community. The position may entail lifting of no more than 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Whenever possible, carts and dollies will be utilized as an alternative to lifting. ["This position focuses primarily on delivering evidence-based interventions for Veterans with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions, though case management activities will also be performed, particularly in the context of transition and discharge planning. Major duties include but are not limited to: Clinical Responsibilities Psychosocial Assessment a. Performs comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments for Veterans and family members with complex physical and behavioral disorders to determine the nature of the presenting problem, biological, social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral factors related to the presenting problem, and the impact of the presenting problem on the Veteran's physical, social, emotional, recreational, and occupational functioning. b. Uses advanced clinical training to select, utilize, and interpret appropriate outcome measures. Integrates all subjective and objective data into a comprehensive assessment that informs treatment planning. c. Assesses high risk factors, acuity, and need for services with Veterans who have frequent and severe crises, lack family or an adequate community support network, have deficiencies in self-monitoring skills, frequently fail to comply with instructions and treatment, or have significant deficits in coping skills and require continuing professional psychosocial support. The incumbent completes comprehensive suicide risk assessments and safety planning for Veterans in crisis. Diagnoses a. Based on the psychosocial assessment and using advanced practice expertise, weighs multiple complex etiological factors in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses. b. Makes independent clinical diagnoses, decisions, and recommendations for agency action. Due to the complex nature of Veterans' diagnoses, the consequences of these decisions may be serious and results unpredictable. Treatment Planning a. Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders. b. The incumbent utilizes the Computerized Patient Record System and any other electronic software assigned by the Supervisory Psychologist (e.g. Mental Health Suite) to document treatment planning and progress. Treatment plan documentation complies with the documentation and timeliness standards established by the Medical Center and The Joint Commission. Therapeutic Intervention a. Utilizes appropriate therapeutic techniques or combinations of techniques to provide Evidence-Based and Recovery-Oriented treatment to Veterans with complex mental health needs within outpatient and inpatient settings. The incumbent provides the full range of therapeutic interventions, including education, individual and/or family psychotherapy, and group psychotherapy to patients, family members, and significant others, as clinically indicated. b. Coordinates assessment and screening of patients for specific mental health programs, including the Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program and outpatient SUD treatment, and provides referrals to internal and external therapeutic resources, as clinically indicated. c. Provides specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illness, to include individual, group, and family psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with polytrauma injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, posttraumatic stress disorder, addictions, and other serious disorders. Outcome Measurement a. Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services. Incumbent designs and implements changes based on empirical findings. Outcome tools used may include, but are not limited to patient self-report, standardized inventories, fiscal measures, and SAIL/performance measure data. b. Routinely utilizes Measurement Based Care, per VA initiative, with Veterans to inform treatment planning and track therapeutic outcomes.
