Position Summary: The Co-Responder position is a Designated Crisis Responder that is embedded with the Puyallup Police Department (PPD) and is part of the Mobile Outreach Crisis Team. The Co-Responders are a resource for Law Enforcement (LE) to utilize when responding to calls with a mental health or substance use disorder component to the call. The Co-Responder will respond to calls by dispatch from South Sound 911 and will also be requested directly from law enforcement. The Co-Responder performs crisis intervention to reduce hospitalizations, and effectively link consumers with on-going mental support services; conducts involuntary commitment evaluations and revocations in accordance with department policies, procedures, state and federal guidelines and protocols provided by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR); files petitions for hearings; educates and provides information for families; collects data; keeps records and provides testimony and/or advocacy, with courts and other agencies. The Co-Responder is to provide least restrictive options for clients that struggling with mental health or substance use disorder or both by diverting from hospitalizations and incarcerations. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an assigned administrative supervisor who has a mental health background and Captain of the Puyallup Police Department. .
Minimum Requirements: Three (3) years of experience in a Mental Health setting required. Current or former experience as a Designated Mental Health Professional preferredUpon hire, must obtain Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Social Worker, or Marriage and Family Therapist Education/Licenses/Certifications: Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field or a Registered Nurse with BA or above education requiredMust be mental health professional in accordance with WAC 388-865-0150Current Washington Driver's License and reliable transportation required
