Post-doctoral positions are available to work with the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center (EGDRC; www.diabetes.emory.edu) and the Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research (GCDTR; www.gcdtr.org), Emory University, Atlanta, USA. EGDRC and GCDTR have established partnerships with a global and US network of significant collaborators in diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) research. The Fellows will be involved in innovative observational, experimental, and translational science studies of diabetes biology, etiology, prevention, and treatment in the United States and South Asia (India and Pakistan).

Opportunities may also exist in the connections between noncommunicable diseases, and infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19, TB). Fellows will work with EGDRC faculty and collaborate with a diverse group of researchers. Exciting scientific challenges and opportunities for career progression are available for motivated, high-quality candidates.Research activities will include working with national and international teams on rigorous statistical analyses of primary and secondary data from population-based cohort and surveillance studies and intervention trials in the United States, India, Pakistan, and elsewhere. Primary responsibilities include participating in study design, developing statistical analyses plans, harmonizing data across multiple databases, conducting state-of-the-art analyses, and developing peer-reviewed research publications to contribute to etiological and social epidemiology of the US and global cardiometabolic disease burden. In addition, there will be opportunities for gaining experience in preparing study protocols, developing R01-level research proposals, designing data collection tools, and overseeing junior researchers.

Preferred qualifications:We are seeking candidates with a doctoral degree in epidemiology, nutrition, behavioral sciences, demography, or related field with strong statistical analysis and programming skills. Substantive knowledge of CVD, diabetes and obesity in low- and middle-country and South Asian cohorts is a plus. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong organizational and record keeping skills; fluent English writing and verbal skills; and an enthusiasm for inter-disciplinary engagement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
