Job Summary
The Critical Response RN, under the direct and indirect supervision of the Medical/Surgical Critical Care Nurse Director and the Assistant Nurse Manager of the Critical Response Team, is a highly skilled registered nurse specializing in the care of critically ill patients. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, comprehensive patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team and responding promptly to complex, high-acuity cases.
As an active member of the clinical leadership team, the Critical Response RN participates in clinical decision-making and manages deteriorating patients alongside medical teams, responding to all Rapid Response Team calls, including Code Blue, Code Stroke, and other consultations. They provide expert critical care across all areas of the hospital, offer review services, and deliver expert clinical support for patients meeting Proactive Rounding criteria.
The RN will also offer expert clinical advice to nursing staff, other health professionals, and patients within all clinical areas, collaborating closely with clinical staff to address care issues. The Critical Response RN contributes to the development of clinical skills and knowledge among nursing staff and other health professionals, participates in the assessment of clinical competencies, and assists in emergency situations and unexpected clinical demands across all areas when available. Additionally, they are responsible for collecting data related to Rapid Response Team activities and may be required to flex to another campus to ensure adequate Critical Response coverage.
The Critical Response RN is required to undergo advanced training and demonstrate competency in life-saving technologies such as CRRT, LVAD, and other necessary devices. As an engaged member of the Unit Practice Council (UPC) within nursing shared governance, the RN provides valuable insights during discussions and serves on UPC councils and Nursing Quality Teams. Active participation in the Unit Council allows the Critical Response RN to contribute to initiatives that aim to enhance NDNQI nursing-sensitive indicators, improve RN satisfaction, boost employee engagement, promote a culture of safety, and elevate patient experience.
In collaboration with other team members, the Critical Response RN plays a key role in recruiting and retaining an exceptional nursing team, while ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered to all patients, visitors, and staff at Northeast Georgia Health System.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia
Educational Requirements: Associates Degree
Minimum Experience: Three years of experience in Critical Care. Emergency Department experience will be considered.
Other: National certification in clinical specialty (or within 6 months of hire)

Preferred Licensure or other certifications: National certification in clinical specialty
Preferred Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Nursing Degree
Preferred Experience: Five years of experience in Critical Care. Emergency Department experience will be considered.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Clinical Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrates basic assessment skills. Demonstrates the 6 rights of medication administration. Manages care for basic patient assignment and progresses to care for increasingly complex patients. Accurately documents all aspects of the nursing process using the electronic medical record as applicable. Understands and complies with all DNV standards. Accesses and follows polices. Evaluates patient response to interventions and adjusts plan of care appropriately. Consistently coordinates interdisciplinary care. Uses resources effectively to reduce waste. Participates in PI processes. Participates in maintaining and monitoring the work environment to ensure compliance with DNV regulations. Coordinates discharge planning. Actively contributes to a culture of safety within the organization.

Evaluates patient's response to interventions and seeks support to adjust the plan of care. Utilizes resources on the unit to increase understanding of the care of unfamiliar patient populations. Recognizes signs of deteriorating patient and accesses appropriate resources. Reads nursing research/EBP articles. Participates in discharge planning with increasing responsibility and coordination. Demonstrates the ability to rapidly recognize and anticipate changes in patient status and takes appropriate action while maintaining professional composure. Recognizes existence of nursing practice trends and questions care as it relates to evidence based practice. Consistently and independently prioritizes patient care.
Leadership and Professional Development: Supports unit goals. Demonstrates support of shared governance through awareness of initiatives. Completes a professional development plan and shows progress on personal learning goals. Supervises and ensures completion of task assigned to ancillary/support staff. Participates in the enhancement of the nursing profession and supporting the community. Appropriately delegates tasks. Seeks resources by actively consulting with the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates support of shared governance through awareness of initiatives and by providing input. Serves in a unit leadership role(s). Serves as the Nurse in Charge as necessary fulfilling the following responsibilities: a. patient flow, b. matches given resources to patients for shift, c. escalates concerns using the chain of command.
